Its first task was to link relations with an experienced authority and one of the leading NGOs in the environmental field in UK, Envirolink Northwest. It is also true to add to that, Envirolink Northwest was also one of the main parties which has consummated the idea of this new unit to be set up in Turkey and share the common goals of social responsibility and taking actions against global warming on an international level.

Following the recruitment of environmental specialists at Delta-Eko in Turkey, in collaboration with Envirolink Northwest at first and then with also Kinetic Cubed part of the Welsh Assembly joining the team, this unit have spent considerable efforts in creating a platform where academicians, business concerns, NGOs from both countries have shared information, exchanged ideas and adopted models for technological collaborations and investments in environmental field.

The unit serving as a contact point / liaison office for Envirolink Northwest and Kinetic Cubed of Wales has so far, organized numerous reciprocal visits between two countries, enabled introductions between the institutions in both countries to meet for the first time for general discussions and became aware of specific abilities and requirements as well exchanged ideas for joint ventures in the area of environmental goods and services.  At present time this unit together with its partners in UK, provide and serve institutions in both countries in the following main areas;

  • Regular briefings on the opportunities and challenges in both Turkish and British EGS sector,
  • Economic and environmental market analysis,
  • Information and information exchange programmes for academic institutions,
  • Analysis on various opportunities for collaboration in EGS field for between two countries.

It might be considered that this unique platform for collaboration in such an important area is one of its only kind to be established between Turkey and UK, and its achievements so far in the past sixteen months has led to the idea to further enlargement of its platform and thus the objectives.

The idea of increasing its coverage to a wider audience, to include parties whom have the potential to contribute and benefit in tackling a very important global issue, and to carry this in a true international format, was very much welcomed and supported by all different opinion groups in both countries.

In April 2008, the establishment of UTES was officially agreed upon, but this time by a wider of people whom most of them are now the current founder members.
